Her formative years were shaped by the literary and cultural environment of Assam, which later became central to her intellectual life and scholarly commitments. From an early stage, she showed strong academic promise and went on to build a distinguished educational record through school, college, and university studies.

Her academic training brought together Assamese literary studies and Sanskrit scholarship, a combination that would define much of her later work. This dual grounding gave her a strong foundation for research in literary criticism, textual studies, translation, and manuscript traditions.

Prof. Goswami’s teaching career began in 1981 as Lecturer in Sanskrit at Rangia College. In 1985, she joined Gauhati University, where she served successively as Lecturer, Reader, and Professor in the Department of Assamese. Over the course of several decades, she contributed substantially to teaching, mentoring, curriculum development, and research leadership.

She later served as Vice Chancellor of Assam Women’s University, extending her role from classroom and research leadership to academic administration and institution-building. Across these appointments, she helped shape scholarly culture while supporting younger researchers, postgraduate students, and doctoral scholars.

Her contributions to translation have been especially significant in opening classical and intellectually rich texts to broader readerships. Through her edited volumes and authored studies, she has helped preserve and interpret important literary works for contemporary audiences and future researchers.

Contribution to Culture and Society

Beyond formal academic publication, Prof. Goswami’s work has contributed to the preservation and visibility of Assam’s manuscript heritage, linguistic traditions, and cultural memory. Through lectures, supervision, translation, research leadership, and institutional service, she has contributed not only to literary studies but also to the wider intellectual and cultural life of Assam.
